Mirandolina:
Everyone wants to marry me! They are subjects in search of an object. For a toy that will satisfy all their needs. - Mm. Should I really do this to myself?

Mirandolina owns a lucrative hotel in Florence and is single by conviction. She is ensnared by a down-and-out aristocrat and a mafia boss who dream of both erotic fulfillment and financial gain. She fends off all their attempts with wit and temperament. When a "misogynist" turns up and makes fun of the "women", the devil takes her for a ride: she tries to inflame him, only to let him fall. She has no idea of the turmoil this will cause, as the men are caught up in a maelstrom of jealousy, followed by pathetic intrigues, grim insults and unsuccessful attempts at murder. Will Mirandolina come out of it in one piece...?

In 1752, Carlo Goldini wrote a lively, wonderfully turbulent comedy which, even then, placed a strong woman at the center of the plot and triggered angry protests from offended men. theaterSPECTACEL serves you a biting new version of the play that relocates the action to present-day Italy. In times when there are increasing calls for "stove bonuses" and "real masculinity", the play is a highly amusing template for the present day.
