Hike with us the only natural world heritage site in Austria! The natural beech forests in the Kalkalpen National Park are so extraordinary because there are only a few left over in Europe: 85 percent of the original red beech forests have been cut down. In 2017, in the Kalkalpen National Park and in the Dürrenstein wilderness area, these valuable old beech forests were recognized by UNESCO as Austria’s first natural world heritage site.
