The tiny commune of Neukirchen nestles along the foothills of Hausruck in an area of awesome natural beauty.
In the Lambach Convent Book of 1070 Neukirchen is recorded by the name of "Niunkirchen" as a subsidiary to the church at Gaspoltshofen. The parish and the village of Neukirchen derived its name from the "New Church" that was built in the year 1342 on the site it still stand today. The village's most famous citizen is Father Maurus Lindemayr, the founder of Upper Austrian vernacular literature. He lived in Neukirchen from 1723 to 1783.
