Engelhartszell
Engelhartszell, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Recreation on the Danube´s shores has a more than 700 year old tradition!
Today the former Cistercian Abbey of Engelszell is Austria´s only Trappist monastery. A permanent exhibition, "Trappist monks in Austria for 70 years", shows their life and work. The abbey is famous for its excellent liqueur and cheese products.
Engelhartszell is rich in history and boasts a whole range of cultural highlights: the Abbey Church (among Austria´s most authentic Rococo buildings), the Baroque-style Parish Church, the imperial Toll Gate and the Energie AG culture center, the 400-year old black smithy and the picturesque buildings in the town center.
The little hamlet of Stadl, located at 720 m above sea level, is embedded in the foothills of the Haugstein mountain (895 m) and known as the highest town of the entire Innviertel region. A highlight not to be missed: the traditional Stations of the Cross Procession held every year in summer.
