Kefermarkt
Kefermarkt, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Visible from afar, the Renaissance Weinberg Castle towers above the village of Kefermarkt. Weinberg Castle was restored for the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition in 1988 and is now an education and event centre.
Another trademark of Kefermarkt is the parish church with its limewood carved winged altar, a jewel and masterpiece of late Gothic art. Alongside the Pacher Altar in St Wolfgang and the Marian Altar in Krakow, it is one of the three greatest Gothic altars of the late 15th century. Adalbert Stifter, who led the restoration of the treasure as a school councillor in 1852, wrote: "It is not a work of art good for a time, a place or good for its kind, but a work of art of the first rank". The entrance to the parish church is now also barrier-free via the "Kirchenplatz", which was completed in 2022. The listed "Stöckl" diagonally opposite the parish centre has also been given a new lease of life with the Stöckl.Kaffee.Kultur. Breakfast variations, which are named after former important personalities from Kefermarkt, are very popular with visitors to the café. The upper floor of the "Stöckl" is home to exhibition rooms from the Kunst Kultur association, where a wide variety of exhibitions have already been held and will continue to be on display in the future.Schloss Weinberg as well as the Gothic winged altar, the history of Kefermarkt is significantly characterised by the then lord of the castle, Christoph von Zelking, who not only had the parish church built, but also donated the world-famous winged altar.
The Kunst Kultur in Kefermarkt association has set itself the goal of reviving the contemporary history of our beautiful town!
Marrying like princes
A bride all in white, a festively dressed wedding party, an extraordinary setting made of marble, stucco and gold moulding - is there a more beautiful picture? The state rooms of the Schloss Weinberg invite you to celebrate special moments in life here. Wedding couples can spend unforgettable hours in style in the Knights' Hall, the Imperial Room or the Ancestral Hall. They use the castle's small chapel or the nearby parish church to say "I do" and enjoy the beautiful photo opportunities in the castle park. The new castle kitchen can cater for the banquet, or the wedding party can celebrate in the nearby brewery inn.
Cultural highlights
Kefermarkt is now a cultural centre of attraction in the region - a place of learning and education as well as an event hub. The castle provides a worthy setting for concerts. At Easter and in Advent, arts and crafts markets attract thousands of people to visit Schloss Weinberg. The colourful hustle and bustle in the castle courtyard and in the many smaller and larger chambers up to the tower is quite an atmospheric experience. Those who want to find out more about the castle and its 800-year history are recommended to take a guided tour.
A circular nature trail into the romantic Feldaisttal valley leads past another event centre. The community-owned, rural Pienkenhof is used by the association "Kultur am Pienkenhof", or KAP for short, for concerts, readings and theatre performances in summer.

We brew our beer
As early as 1387, the beer brewing of the Zelkinger, the first Schlossherren Weinbergs. The hops required for brewing beer were planted in the surrounding area.
The annual beer output in the 18th century averaged 1750 buckets (980 hectolitres). Beer has been brewed in the historic stables of the 400-year-old Meierhof since 1989. Weinberger Schlossbräu light and dark with an original gravity of 11.8 degrees and an alcohol content of 4.5 per cent by volume is produced directly in the guest rooms of the castle brewery using the purest spring water, Mühlviertel hops and malt. It goes without saying that the natural, unfiltered barley juice can be tasted on the spot. The Gasthaus-Brauerei is known far and wide for its idyllic beer garden under chestnut trees with a view of the imposing castle behind the castle pond. A beer nature trail and a nearby pendulum nature trail invite you to return to experiencing nature after a tasty refreshment.
