Jahndenkmal

There are 88 anniversary monuments in Austria, but we had none. This was to change in the anniversary year 2004. Chairman Gerald Stutz was the donor of this new monument and searched for months to find the right monument for us. He found what he was looking for at the Spitz/Donau gymnastics club, which was also building its own memorial. So contact was made with the artist Prof Freilinger regarding the bronze Jahn relief and in January the relief was finished.

In March 2004, a suitable granite stone was selected in the quarry of the Schärdinger Granitwerke and master stonemason and member KR Johann Ganglmair finally produced the monument. It was then mounted on a concrete foundation in June and ceremoniously opened at a large celebration on 26 June 2004. The opening speech was given by Tbr Günter Atzmanninger, former Federal Chairman of the ÖTB. He had also spent years compiling documentation on all the Jahn monuments in Austria and so we knew that our monument was the 89th in Austria.

Afterwards, the "Great Austrian Tattoo" was played by the four local bands, then there was a great fireworks display and at around 10.00 pm the band "SAM" from Kallham started to play for the musical accompaniment as part of a summer night party.
