The WHA Gallery sees itself as an experimental authors' gallery at the Linz Art University and shows current projects by students at short intervals. The name of the WHA gallery is reminiscent of the legendary scene meeting place in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, which was founded in 1959. Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen and Woody Allen had their first performances here.
But above all, the bar was already the "melting pot" of the BEAT GENERATION in the early fifties, whose protagonists met there for readings, performances and music jams. Actually, the improvised basement club was supposed to be called "WHAT", but the "T" of the shabby illuminated letters got lost right away ...
