The Mattigtal Hedge Maze of Human Rights (MHM)
Austria's largest hedge labyrinth, the "Mattigtaler Heckenlabyrinth der Menschrechte (MHM)" (Mattigtal Hedge Labyrinth of Human Rights), stretches over an area of around 3,000 m² between the villages of Reichsdorf and Kronleiten. The first plantings began back in 2005 on a private initiative and the grand opening finally took place in June 2016.
The labyrinth has a natural design, with native trees such as birch, walnut, field maple, beech and lime being used to create spaces alongside the hornbeam hedge. In spring, the cherry blossom is impressive, in summer shady spots are tempting and in autumn the labyrinth is colourful.
The labyrinth is dedicated to the first article of the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights, from which the name is derived.
The labyrinth is accessible free of charge from May to October and is mainly used by visitors to the Mattigtal cycle path R24 as well as by families, school classes and clubs as an excursion destination.
