The animal paradise Schabenreith, located at about 800m above sea level in the Upper Austrian foothills of the Alps, is an officially approved animal shelter of the state of Upper Austria and houses around 500 protégés. In addition to the operation of the animal shelter, the very spacious area of ​​around 9 hectares is a refuge for old and sick pets that have become unpopular, as well as so-called "farm animals". They are allowed to spend their retirement years under the best medical care on the farm and are lovingly accompanied on their final journey. You don't have to do any job or use. Here they find protection and a place to live, they can simply "be" forever. In addition, the animal paradise Schabenreith is a collection and care station for wild animals. Animals in need have to be looked after again and again: mowed cats or fawns, abandoned or half-dead beaten dogs, half-starved horses or sheep, suddenly unwanted guinea pigs or rabbits, peacocks that are annoying due to the morning calls and so on. The couple Doris Hofner-Foltin and Ing.Harald Hofner have been dedicating themselves to this extraordinary life's work since 1993 with a lot of love, dedication and professionalism - 100% on a voluntary basis.
