The Calvary, which was an execution site until the 18th century and was known as "Galgenholz", is now a local recreation area for young and old. A walk through the recreational forest offers an interesting and culturally varied look back at the history of Neumarkt i.H. as well as a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside. The starting point for the hike is the bird park of the Neumarkt-Kallham small animal breeding association at the foot of the Kalvarienberg with a playground at the end of the Kalvarienbergstraße. On the way to the Calvary Church, there are seven chapels along the Way of the Cross, most of which were built by Neumarkt citizens after the plague in the 18th century. Opposite the Calvary Church, the "Panoramablick Kalvarienberg" was built by the local history association "Chalwenheim et Novum Forum". By designing the viewing platform with seating in a clearing in the anniversary year 2020 "800 years of Markt Neumarkt", the association created a lasting memory with added value for the residents of the region, guests and visitors to the community recreation area. A "Panorama-Gucker" with a view of the Mostlandl and a 180° view of the mountain panorama complements the viewing platform integrated into the circular hiking trail. Further along the circular trail, you pass the Adalbert Schreyer memorial stone, which is dedicated to the great musician and composer who spent the last years of his life in Neumarkt. The journey continues to the Schiller lime tree and the Turner monument. The latter was built in memory of the fallen and missing gymnasts from the two world wars. The legendary Dragonerlacke is also worth a detour. The circular route finally leads back to the starting point in the relaxing silence of the forest.
