Stadlerwiese

Ottenschlag im Mühlkreis, Oberösterreich, Österreich

With an area of around 3.4 hectares, the Stadlerwiese nature reserve is rather small. However, extremely diverse, valuable and rare ecosystems intertwine in this limited space. This gem can be found in the Mühlviertel municipality of Ottenschlag, around one kilometre north-east of the village of Reichenau.

The Stadlerwiese runs alongside the Grasbach stream, whose natural watercourse borders the conservation area. The entire complex consists of a wet and damp meadow area, a flower meadow and a hedge landscape. The area is easy to hike along a circular trail with information boards and a rest area. A total of 102 different plant species have been counted on the Stadlerwiese, including extremely rare species such as the sparrow rush, the Davall sedge and the large-leaved sundew. In addition to many native mammal species, which particularly appreciate the hedgerow area as a habitat, 50 bird species are present on the Stadlerwiese, from the black stork to the grey heron and the sparrowhawk.
