Zwirnknopf-Museum
Pregarten, Oberösterreich, Österreich

- Suitable for groups
Sabine Krump, the button maker, has created a monument to the twisted button at Stadtplatz 2. The museum tells stories about twisted button sewing and displays special examples.
The button maker, author and keeper of folk heritage Sabine Krump has revived the old craft of twisted button sewing here and developed it into an artisan craft, but has also created a monument to it. While visitors to the "Knopfstubn & Schmuckschmiede" have the opportunity to purchase special pieces from artisans and craftswomen from the region, the enthusiastic button maker offers courses for those interested in learning how to sew twisted buttons on the premises of the Zwirnknopfmuseum. You can also learn old handicrafts such as crocheting money hooks, knitting traditional costume socks and sewing them into calligraphy or soutache jewellery in the courses on offer.
In the privately run Zwirnknopf Museum, you can see bobbin lace, occi and frivolity work, various embroidery and crochet techniques, as well as the oldest twisted button, various needlework utensils, clothing from times gone by, different buttons, handicraft objects and a unique "Tambouriergoaß".
