The landmark of Schwanenstadt

The "Upper" town tower, which blocked the road to Salzburg, is one of two former towers.

The tollkeeper and night watchmen used to live in the tower. The tower was damaged several times in its history by floods and in the town fire of 1815. However, it was always rebuilt. In 1903, the tower was provided with a vaulted passageway, which was extended in 1949.

Today, the tower houses the town tower gallery.
