Altenfelden animal park and "cultum venandi" hunting culture museum in the Mühlviertel region No two days are the same at Altenfelden Zoo - over 1000 animals of more than 200 species make sure of that. With this large number and an area of 80 hectares, it is the largest private zoo in Austria. Exotic animals feel just as at home in the Mühlviertel as old domestic and farm animal breeds. #### Hunting Culture Museum "cultum venandi" The hunting culture museum "cultum venandi", which opened in 2019 in the center of the zoo, aims to give visitors an understanding of the history, culture and tradition of hunting. Over 80 exhibits and information boards can be viewed in the museum: The development of hunting from the Stone Age to the present day can be read about, as well as hunting laws and facts about hunting. Curious trophies, rare rarities: including a deer hunter from Emperor Franz Joseph, old and new hunting weapons are also on display. Everything to do with falconry, the language of hunting and the importance of hunting dogs has also found its place in the new museum. One highlight is a true-to-life replica of a local landscape with many animal specimens. Or you can follow in the footsteps of myths and legends, learn more about the gods of hunting and immerse yourself in a world of fables. **Owl trail with educational owl trail Semita Noctua** The new owl trail with educational trail "Semita Noctua" was opened in October 2019. It is designed to give visitors and school groups in particular an understanding of the life of native owl species with the help of information boards. The owl trail also marks the start of the species conservation program "Reintroduction of the Ural owl in Austria". **Wonderfully walkable** See and hike: Nestled in the hills of the Upper Mühlviertel, the area is already incredibly scenic. There are two different hiking trails. The shorter route takes about 2 hours and is designed in such a way that you pass all the animals. It is easily accessible even with a baby carriage and dogs are also allowed on a lead. For hiking enthusiasts, there is a longer circular trail with a walking time of 4 to 5 hours. This leads through a gate into the small Mühltal valley and to the Rabenstein, a rock formation that is second to none. There is also the option of taking a slow train from the town center to the parking lot. #### Children's attractions - mega playground [ Contact ](#ttgCollapseKontakt) ---------------------------------- **Zoo Altenfelden and hunting culture museum** Atzesberg 8 4121 Altenfelden mobile [ +43 664 5769851 ](tel:+436645769851) E-Mail [office@tierpark-altenfelden.at](#mailto) Web [tierpark-altenfelden.at/](http://tierpark-altenfelden.at/ "New window") http://tierpark-altenfelden.at/ --- **You can also visit us on** [ Facebook ](https://www.facebook.com/Tierpark.Altenfelden/)--- **Contact person** Mrs Barbara Laher Tierpark Altenfelden Atzesberg 8 4121 Altenfelden mobile [ +43 664 5769851 ](tel:+436645769851) E-Mail [office@tierpark-altenfelden.at](#mailto) Web [tierpark-altenfelden.at/](http://tierpark-altenfelden.at/ "New window") [ Opening hours ](#ttgCollapseOeffnungszeiten) ------------------------------------------------ **Winter season** ----------------- November 28, 2025 - March 1, 2026:Saturday and Sunday open from 10:00 to 16:00 You can stay in the park until 6:00 pm or nightfall at the latest **Special opening days** ------------------------ - December 8, 2025: open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Christmas vacations from December 20, 2025 to January 6, 2026: Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Upper Austria semester break from February 14 to 22, 2026: Open daily from 10:00 to 16:00 You can stay in the park until 6:00 pm or nightfall at the latest **Spring/summer season** ------------------------ April 1 to October 26, 2026 Open daily from 09:00 - 17:00 You can stay in the park until 19:00 or nightfall at the latest [ Arrival ](#ttgCollapseAnreise) ---------------------------------- [ Prices ](#ttgCollapsePreise) -------------------------------- **General price information**[Click here for the price information.](http://tierpark-altenfelden.at/eintrittspreise/) [ Suitability ](#ttgCollapseEignung) -------------------------------------- - Suitable for schools - Suitable for kids (all ages) - Pets allowed - Suitable for seniors - Suitable for friends - Suitable for couples - Suitable for children **Season**- Spring - Summer - Autumn - Winter **Other special suitabilities** Dogs only allowed on a leash.
