The chapel was built in 1649 as a plague chapel in honour of the Holy Trinity over a spring (Bründl) in the Egerholz. The water of the Bründl is said to have healing powers and is used for eye diseases. In 1867, a blind girl from Peilstein is said to have been cured by the Bründl water at the Egerholz chapel.
