Hascherl wayside cross
Zell am Moos am Irrsee, Oberösterreich, Österreich

On September 18, 1994, a relative of August Meindl brought water for the livestock from the stream and found here in the afternoon the newborn, who had been stabbed 6 times.
When August Meindl heard about it, he was so affected by the fate of the child that he created the boy, who was only allowed to live so briefly, a Marterl and set it up on December 10, 1994. In the Marterl was first a picture, painted by Hilda Nußbaumer. It represented a woman stabbing a child. The inscription read:
As a boy I was born and was already hurt.
A knife and the deadly wounds -
Had I been put down, a mother would have found me.
Born and murdered on September 18, 1994
The picture disappeared soon. August Meindl wrote the following text and put it in the Marterl.
As a little boy I came to this world.
You do not want me.
18. 9. 1994
I ask for a Lord's Prayer.
Once again there was a change. The text - initially in Kurrentschrift - is now engraved in an easily readable form.
