In June 2011, three of the roughly 20-30 sunken pile dwelling stations in Lake Attersee which date back to neolithic times were declared UNESCO World Heritage.
Apart from the three locations on Lake Attersee (Litzlberg Süd, Abtsdorf 1 and 3), the settlement 'See' on Lake Mondsee and an island in the Lake Keutschacher See in Carinthia also bear this desirable title.
Would you like to dive into the life of the first settlers on Lake Attersee or learn interesting facts about life in the Stone Age? Follow Ötzi’s tracks and turn back time with a pile dwelling instructor!
