With the FFH and bird sanctuary Traun-Donau-Auen, an ecosystem that is species-rich and close to nature in many areas was preserved in the middle of the Upper Austrian central area.
The reserve is high in biodiversity as well as it is an ecosystem where many different endangered species live. Rare plants, many amphibians, toads and beavers can be found at the waters of the meadows.
The natural history station of Linz is still working on the reserve's development by considering a wide range of different ecological criteria. One of the main aims is to harmonise the demands of local recreation and the goal of the nature conservation.
