Limonistollen

Linz, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • Suitable for groups

To the west of downtown Linz is a total of 14 km of tunnels, most of which date back to World War II.

For centuries, the sandstone hills to the west of Linz have been used for beer and wine cellars. During World War II, existing cellars were converted into huge, kilometer-long air-raid shelters, drawing on the exploitation of concentration camp prisoners housed in the tunnels for their construction.

It is possible to visit part of the Linz air-raid shelters as part of contemporary history tours with specially trained Austria Guides. Combinations with city tours are also possible.
