Kalvarienberg with Kalvarienberg chapels
Traunkirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Visits are only possible up to the barrier
There are also chapel's on " Kalvarienberg " ( Calvary ), another hill which lies close to the centre of the Village. It is reached by climbing a series of stone steps, laid 1739, which lead past four smaller prayer chapels. The main chapel was finished in 1699 and is the oldest of its kind in the Salzkammergut. Inside there is a baroque Crucifixion scene group. Most striking is the depiction of " Heavenly Jerusalem " set into the landscape of the Salzkammergut. The traditional custom of " Antlaßsingen " ( singing the sufferings of Christ ) during the night between Maundy Thursday and Good Friday comes to a dignified close with the litany of the terrible sorrows at about 3 a.m. in the last chapel.
