The Calvary Church offers a wonderful view over the Windischgarstnertal!

As early as 1741, large Passion processions are said to have taken place to the crucifixion group on the mountain, and today the parish of St. Jakob von Windischgarsten goes to the Kalvarienberg church every Friday during Lent to pray and celebrate services there.

The impetus for the construction of the Kalvarienberg church was given by Provost Grundtner from Spital am Pyhrn in 1778, but the church was not built until the 1940s with the support of the citizens of Windischgarsten. Schoolchildren carried the bricks up the hill by hand. In Advent 1843, the church was completed in the simple Baroque style. The burial chapel was later added to the chancel. The Calvary Church was consecrated on 20 July 1844. It was renovated in 1995.

Opening hours

The Kalvarienberg Church in Windischgarsten is open during the Upper Austrian summer holidays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Holy Masses. Otherwise it can only be visited from the outside.
