The Lions Idea: What is being done? We are in trouble to help others, quickly and efficiently We support disabled children and promote their integration therapy and We actively combat alcohol and drug abuse We promote measures for health care We encourage talented young people and children We are active in the senior citizens and the disabled We work constantly to promote tolerance We work on multicultural co-existence We support the preservation of all heritage We are committed to environmental sustainability Our help is diverse. Founded in 1917, the Lions movement has taken such a significant upswing in the world, as their founders, especially Melvin Jones, could hardly hope for him. Today, Lions International has over 44,000 clubs with 1,400,000 members in over 180 countries and regions of the world. Lions can be found virtually everywhere today, where free people live. First established in the United States, still carries the state of Illinois, where our headquarters is in the city of Chicago, the proud District No. 1 Of the USA, the Lions thought initially spread to Canada, then came China, Mexico, Central and South America. In Europe, Sweden was the first country Lions in 1948. The first Austrian club was founded in 1952 in Graz. Currently there are over 200 clubs in Austria with more than 6,000 members. The first Leo club was also founded in the USA in 1957 and 1967, Leo clubs have been included as a youth organization in the Lions organization. Currently, there are 5600 clubs in 138 countries with 140,000 members. The first club in Austria, Vienna Opera, founded in 1969, today we have 19 Leo clubs with about 270 members.
