This year's exhibition at the Zinkenbacher Malerkolonie Museum in St. Gilgen, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the museum, shows the painters' colony in its social and political environment from the fall of the monarchy to the dissolution of the artists' community due to political changes in 1938 and as an epilogue to the post-war period.
 
On display are works that were created during the monarchy, such as drawings by Alfred Gerstenbrand and a work by Oskar Laske. Austria's most important art movement in the interwar period, the New Objectivity, is represented with works by Bettina Bauer-Ehrlich, Gertrude Schwarz-Helberger and Sergius Pauser. Landscape painting, influenced by the summer retreat on Lake Wolfgang, is represented by works by Lisel Salzer, Ferdinand Kitt, Ernst Huber and Georg Ehrlich.
 
The politically induced flight of numerous artists led to the dissolution of the painters' colony and, regrettably, the circle of artists never came together again. As an epilogue, the exhibition focuses on designs by Gudrun Baudisch and Sergius Pauser's work "Signing of the State Treaty 1955".
 
Works from the museum's own collection as well as loans from major museums and private collectors are on display. In addition, the short film "Hell", a reflection of the interwar period, by Rein Raamat can be seen.

Lisel Salzer - Lisl Weil - Hilde Spiel
Three artists - three friends
Three artist friends are at the centre of the exhibition: the painter Lisel Salzer, the illustrator and performance artist Lisl Weil and the writer Hilde Spiel. The connections between these artists are close and multi-layered: Lisel Salzer paints Hilde Spiel, with whom she experiences a love affair with two Belgians during a summer in St. Wolfgang, an incident that provides the template for Hilde Spiel's novel Confusion at Lake Wolfgang. Lisel Salzer also paints Lisl Weil's family - the portraits are in the family's estate in New York and will be shown to the public for the first time in the exhibition.
