The baroque parish church rises 45 metres high in the heart of the market town of Aurolzmünster.
The first church building, erected by Abbot Urolf of Niederaltaich around 800, was dedicated to St Mauritius. The parish church was built in the Gothic style, as evidenced by the presbytery, the Gothic vault, the late Gothic stone portal and Gothic door fittings.
The tower attached to the south side of the church had a pointed roof before the fire in 1672. The onion dome was added in 1718.
Baroqueisation and the associated extension of the church took place in 1729-1735.
The high altar, erected in 1734, is made of stucco marble and was created by Johann Franz Schwanthaler, Michaelangelo Unterberger and Josef Ignaz Holzinger.
