The church is the centre of the world-famous pilgrimage site Christkindl!
Registration for groups is absolutely necessary.
Tip: Advent concerts in the pilgrimage church of Christkindl with the music association Christkindl on December 2nd / 9th / 16th, 2025 at 3 PM each day.
The History
In 1695, the seriously ill tower keeper and chapel master Ferdinand Sertl placed a small wax baby Jesus in the hollow of a spruce tree. He visited this place several times a week to pray. When he was miraculously healed of his epilepsy, so many pilgrims came that the construction of a church became necessary. The name “Zum Christkindl unterm Himmel” emerged. The present church was begun in 1702 by Giovanni Battista Carlone and completed from 1708 by Jakob Prandtauer.
The miraculous figure, a standing baby Jesus only 10 cm tall, holding a cross and a crown of thorns in his hands, is today located on the high altar in a small shrine, above the tabernacle shaped like a globe.

Throughout the year, the pilgrimage church can be viewed from the outside, and access to the church is possible up to the barrier.

The parking spaces directly in front of the church and next to the nativity building are subject to a fee, a free large parking lot is located nearby!

For groups of 10 or more, guided tours in the church and the nativity exhibition are possible throughout the year with prior registration at the parish office.
