Pfarrkirche Altenberg
Altenberg bei Linz, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The late Gothic parish church in Altenberg is a typical building of its time.
Due to two lightning strikes, the Altenberg church can boast the attraction of a leaning tower! The church is adorned with a beautiful baroque high altar from the demolished Sautern branch church of Schlierbach Abbey. The right side altar shows a Schwanthaler group depicting the Holy Family. In the left side altar, the venerable old statue of the pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary has been remodelled. In the gallery there is a new Rieger organ, which was inaugurated in 1995 after a thorough restoration of the church building by cathedral priest Johann Bergsmann. In the presbytery between the high altar and the popular altar there is a crypt where Ester, Countess of Starhemberg, found her final resting place.
During the last church renovation in 1991, the crypt was opened and those interested were able to take a look inside at the copper coffin. The entrance was then closed again, the coat of arms was sunk into the floor at this point and covered with a glass plate.
