Archaeological excavations in Mitterkirchen gave reason to establish a reconstructed Prehistoric Celtic Village of the Hallstatt Era.


History

By reconstructing homes, diverse workshops and artifacts with traditional tools, the Outdoor Museum at Mitterkirchen opens a window on everyday life in the past. The Museum shows how the people of Upper Austria lived, worked and spent their leisure time some 2,700 years ago and inspires visitors with an appreciation of Celtic history and tradition. Undisputed highlight of the Celtic Village is the burial mound that was installed to provide visitors with insights into the burial rites around 700BC. Hands-on experiences, such as doing pottery, making jewelry or baking bread, are graciously arranged.

A Guided Tour of the Museum takes 30 minutes
20 minutes´ Film Screenings available
Detailed descriptions of the Museum´s prehistoric attractions are obtainable in English, French, Spanish and Italian.

Please ask for rates on pottery classes, making jewelry, bread baking sessions and archery.

Guided tours of the open-air museum are possible by telephone arrangement!

The guided tour texts are available in German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Czech and Hungarian.
