Barbara & Sigmar Chapel

The Barbara-Chapel (or Sigmar-chapel) is located to he south of the former Minoriten monastery and can be reached by foot via the dungeons.

It was built around 1480 along the city wall. In the 19th century the chappel was erroneously named after the Lambacher abbot Sigmar as "Sigmarkapelle". He had confirmed the donation in 1305. In 1794 the city of Wels bought the chappel and used it for military purposes.

The Sigmarkapelle was renovated from 1956-58 and consecrated on 29.10.1961. 22.10.1962: Opening of the memorial for the soldiers killed in action in the second world war.

In the chapel you can see a bronze by Peter Bronisch, called the "dying warrior".
