Haushamer Memorial
Pfaffing, Oberösterreich, Österreich

Tribunal at Haushamerfeld
In 1625, more exactly on May 15, the official head of the town, Count Adam Herberstorff, sent for 36 farmers and citizens living in the parishes of Frankenburg, Gampern, Neukirchen, Pöndorf and Vöcklamarkt. He awaited them under the lime tree. Without any interrogation all of them had to dice for their lives, a warning to all rebels and agitators within the entire province and an attempt to bring back Catholicism.
The same day, at approximately 3:00 pm, more than 5000 men met under the lime tree to watch the spectacle. Every pair of players threw the dice and 16 persons lost their life in the game (2 men were reprieved).
