The late Gothic parish church of Königswiesen, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, is certainly a highlight on the Gothic route.
The "Maria Himmelfahrt" parish church is one of the market town's gems. It is a late Gothic, non-uniform building and is one of the most important late Gothic buildings in Austria. In 1426, work began on rebuilding the church, which had been destroyed by the Hussites. The famous loop ribbed vault was created, which has 480 panels in the nave alone. The high altar contains a replica of the destroyed miraculous image, while a late Baroque crucifix from the 18th century is on the choir wall. The baptismal font dates back to 1574. The cemetery was moved away from the church in 1840. - The parish was under the patronage of Waldhausen Monastery (1147). There was already a priest here in Königswiesen in 1156. The last exterior renovation was completed in 2004 and the interior renovation in September 2006.
