What do I need to fish in Upper Austria?

The authorisation to fish is linked to the possession of fishing credentials. The Upper Austrian Fisheries Act stipulates the following:

1. the fishing licence with photo (ID)
The fishing licence is issued from the age of 12 onwards upon proof of aptitude for fishing. Proof of aptitude for fishing is provided by attending a training course and successfully passing a fishing examination or relevant vocational training. However, there must be no other reason for refusal.
Note: A valid official fishing licence with photograph issued in another federal state or abroad is treated in the same way as a fishing permit. Fishing permits in foreign languages must be accompanied by an official certification.

Exceptions:
Children under the age of 12 and persons with disabilities may fish freely when accompanied by an adult who must be authorised to fish and in possession of a fishing licence; they do not need to purchase a licence or pay any fees when fishing. The licence regulations must be complied with in full.

2. The annual fishing licence
After registering with the Upper Austrian Fishing Association (https://www.lfvooe.at/anmeldung-zur-jahresfischerkarte-zahlscheinsystem/), each fisherman is assigned an ID and sent an invitation to pay the annual fishing licence fee. Once the JFK fee has been paid, the proof of payment must be enclosed with the official fishing licence, which is then valid as an annual fishing licence for the respective calendar year. The JFK fee is currently € 28 per calendar year.
infoNote: The access data for the annual fishing licence can be requested from the Upper Austrian Fishing Association at any time.

To register, a data collection sheet is available on the page https://www.lfvooe.at/anmeldung-zur-jahresfischerkarte-zahlscheinsystem/ . After registration, the payment reference for the JFK levy will be communicated within a few days. The JFK levy is currently € 28. A payment option has been opened in the "shop" on the association's homepage.

3. The written permit (licence) - depending on the water
The licence (= permission to fish in a specific water) can be purchased in writing or digitally. For reasons of verifiability, licences acquired digitally must currently also be printed out and carried in written form!

In any case, the licence must contain:
- the name of the manager and the licence holder
- the name of the body of water concerned and the authorised fishing gear
- the start and end of the licence's validity
- the date of issue and the handwritten (or electronic) signature of the manager.

The licence must be enclosed with the valid annual fishing permit.
