Gaspoltshofen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Around 145 people with disabilities or neurological disorders receive a high level of care and support at the "Dorf Altenhof" - the headquarters of the "assista" organisation. Around 150 people are employed here.
A visit to the in-house shop with handicraft products or the "Hausruckwald" café offers the opportunity to meet people with disabilities. Exhibitions at the "Galerie Hausruck" and a wide variety of cultural events promote integration and encourage people with disabilities to break down barriers.
One villager describes everyday life in the "Altenhof village": "...many of us have hands that are so disabled that they can only work with aids or with the help of other parts of the body. Our products are reverse glass paintings, basket weaving of all kinds, pottery that is worth seeing, macramé work, woven products from car covers to carpets, carvings, enamel jewellery and much more that you wouldn't believe was made by disabled people. In addition, typing and language courses are offered and taken up with interest ..."
Opening hours of the shop:
Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 11.30 am and 12.30 pm to 4 pm
