Pfarrkirche Waizenkirchen

Waizenkirchen, Oberösterreich, Österreich
After the existing wooden church was devastated by Avar invasions at the end of the 8th century, a stone building was erected under the Passau bishops. In the 18th century, the Gothic church fell victim to fire twice. Due to the great poverty and hardship, it was only rebuilt in a simple manner. Additions and several renovations followed until today's parish church was built. The late Baroque church with Gothic elements was restored in 1987 and has an interior worth seeing.
Details about the church:
- the church tower including the spire cross is 48 metres high
- the warrior bell, or twelve bells, weighs 1489 kilograms
- Gothic main portal
- Baroque high altar
- altar of St Mary, St Sebastian and the cross
- Four altarpieces by the famous painter Martin Johann Schmidt, known as "Kremser Schmidt"
- Hallstatt nativity scene at Christmas time
