Pfarrkirche Kallham, der "Landl-Dom"

Kallham, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The "Landl-Dom"
No matter which direction you come to Kallham from, the church with its dominant 72 metre high onion dome can be seen from afar. At the car park south of the church (directly on the B 137), you can admire the "Dom im Landl" in its full size while resting under shady chestnut trees.Kallham is one of the oldest local communities in the country. The region was already settled around 1000 AD. Kallham was first mentioned in a document in 1120 as "de Chalheim".
The parish has always played a special role in the history of Kallham. And so the mighty baroque church is also the "No. 1 sight" in Kallham. Built in 1704 and almost completely destroyed and rebuilt after a lightning strike in 1891, the "Dom im Landl" is one of the most beautiful places of worship in the whole country. After extensive interior (2001) and exterior renovations (2009), the parish church shines in even more beautiful splendour.
The "Landl-Dom" is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The high altarpiece depicts the Assumption of Mary, which is why the church celebrates its name day on 15 August. On this day - and has been for over 500 years - the well-known Kirtag is held with over 100 showmen, a trade show and a funfair.
