Adventure Gschliefgraben

On an excursion with the renowned geologist Johannes Weidinger, we experience many a geological aha-experience and explore the relationships between the formation of landscapes, natural hazards and near-natural forests.

There are two options: on the one hand an adventurous tour into the limestone landscape of the Kaltenbachwildnis and on the other hand the hike to the erosion processes at the foot of the Traunsteinwand.

Our excursion shows us the structural upheavals on the east bank of the Traunsee in Gmunden. We research the different geological zones and their natural erosion processes. Measures to contain the forces of nature are explained. The location Gschliefgraben impressively confronts us with the limits and possibilities of design by human hands.

A visit to the Kammerhof museums prepares you for the geological journey that initially takes us up the Grünberg by cable car.

Our adventurous tour leads through the dark forest of the Gschliefgraben with its active earth currents and mudslides to the bizarre limestone landscape of the "Kaltenbachwildnis". Whether we come across fossils? In any case, we get spectacular insights into the history of the landscape at Lake Traunsee.
