Climate-friendly and species-rich forest management in the Almtal
Drought, storms, heat, bark beetles - climate change is affecting our forests!
On this hike through the forest we observe the ground, bushes, herbs, small organisms - and the trees. Together we will consider what this forest will look like in 10, 50 or 100 years. The terms primeval forest, near-natural forest, commercial forest and wood plantation are discussed. What should the forest of the future look like? This is discussed over a wood servant snack.
We arrive in the forest and take time to immerse ourselves in the great atmosphere of a natural forest. With the use of all our senses, we explore the forest floor and immerse ourselves in a wonder world.
We gain access to the first floor of the forest by collecting objects in the form of a memory. In an interview we come into conversation with tree babies, school-age, juvenile and adult trees. A regional forest fairy tale brings us closer to the very complicated consideration of the term sustainability.
Depending on the weather, we keep ourselves moving with running games.
With role plays that are tailored to the group, we address the issues of sustainability, ecology, dead wood and forest regeneration.
In stories and tales we learn a lot about the larger forest animals and the importance of the hoofed game population on the condition of our forests.
If the circumstances allow, the importance of the forest on the water balance and the supply of drinking water is discussed.
We end our visit to the forest with a playful "Berimandl game".
The near-natural forest management, as represented by the PROSILVER association in Europe, is very much in keeping with nature conservation efforts in all areas. For forestry reasons, biodiversity is viewed very positively and, for example, great attention is paid to soil life. For this reason, clear-cutting should be avoided. The local forest society is carefully supported.
This event is supported by the EU and the state of Upper Austria with rural development funds.
