Guided tour of Mühlviertel Cathedral

Largest church in the Mühlviertel in terms of area

The Mühlviertel Cathedral

The Gothic church was dilapidated and had become too small. The call for a new church building grew louder and louder. Bishop Rudiger encouraged the establishment of a fund to enlarge the church. The rebuilding of the church took place between 1890 and 1895.
The plans for the "Mühlviertel Cathedral" - the largest church in the Mühlviertel in terms of area - were drawn up by Raimund Jeblinger, then master builder of the cathedral in Linz. The (too) large hall church was built in the neo-Renaissance style at the great sacrifice of the parish population. It was consecrated in 1895, but the tower was not completed until 1907. The patron saint of the parish and church is St. Andrew the Apostle. Dr. Rudolf Kirchschläger was baptized in the "Mühlviertel Cathedral" in 1915. The history of the building also provides an exciting insight into a time of great religious and social upheaval, which also left its mark on a small village.
