Anton Bruckner and his Steyr

Steyr is celebrating the 200th birthday of Anton Bruckner with two lovingly designed exhibitions (Stadtmuseum & Mesnerhaus), which show Bruckner the man and his connections to Steyr. Numerous anecdotes from Bruckner's life are revealed on the adventure walks around the town. Anton Brucker spent 20 summers in Steyr. A consortium of wealthy Steyr citizens paid Anton Bruckner an allowance so that he could devote himself exclusively to music and composition. Bruckner lived in the vicarage and worked in the parish church on the Chrisman organ, which was rebuilt according to his recommendations in 1893. Parts of the 8th and 9th symphonies were composed during his stays in Steyr. Anton Bruckner - known to friends as Tonerl - was not averse to good Upper Austrian food and enjoyed being cooked for - whether it was buttered dumpling soup, roast meat or stuffed breast of veal.
